UWEC Women's Rugby is always recruiting new players. All female undergraduates are welcome to join and absolutely no experience is required!
WHAT IS RUGBY?Rugby is a fun and physical sport played around the world. It is similar to American Football (in fact, football originated from rugby) but played in a faster and continuous manner. There are no time-outs, no huddles and the clock never stops. Unlike American Football, every player gets to pass, kick and run with the ball, every player gets to tackle opponents and every player gets to score.
CAN I PLAY RUGBY?Rugby can be played by anyone! Fast or slow, big or small, from 5’ to 7’, all that we require is a desire to play hard. No previous experience is necessary. Most of our players had never even seen a game before they joined the club.
WHERE DO I START?The first thing for you to do now is to plan a day to come to any practice. Also, take a look around the rest of our web site and feel free to contact any of our officers. We hope to see you there!
HOW MUCH TIME?We typically practice from 5-7pm on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, with games on Saturdays. Away games may take up most of Saturday and tournaments may take up even more time. If you have a time conflict don’t worry, come talk to us and chances are you can still play.
WHAT ABOUT CLASSES?While we require our players to be committed, we know that academics come first. We’ve had great rugby players from every major and alumni who have gone on to be doctors, teachers and nurses, just to name a few. Participating in a club sport will help you develop time-management and organizational skills and, contrary to popular belief, playing rugby does not make you dumber.
A FEW BASICS FOR BEGINNERS- Don't wear jewelry during a match or practice
- Do plan on being at practice at least two days a week
- Don't come if you don't like team sports
- Do expect to get some bumps and bruises just about every week of the season
- Don't think that you have to have lots of experience or lots of money to play
- Do come with a positive attitude
- Don't order any equipment until you come out to practice
- Do come to practice prepared for physically demanding drills
- Don't miss games, they are every Saturday during the season!
